Photos From Negatives

Negatives Are Buried Treasure.

We all tend to toss the negatives aside, but all your old photos were "mastered" from negatives. Well-preserved negatives most often have the highest resolution and can produce the best images. In many cases the negative produces a much better result than scanning a photo.

We Handle Your Negatives Positively.

We know negatives can be fragile and we treat them very gently. Every negative gets our white glove treatment and we only scan them manually one-at-a-time.  Color correction, defect removal, and restoration are performed manually by a technician.

Film Formats

  • 35 mm

  • 110

  • 126/127

  • 120

Storage Format

JPG is the most common format and sufficient for almost any purpose (sharing, resizing, printing, enlargements, etc.) File size is relatively small and it is very portable between devices.

TIFF is a lossless format and preserves the most detail and information about an image for archiving. File size is large requiring more storage. It allows for virtually unlimited editing and manipulation.

Media

We can save your digitized slides to:

USB memory stick.  We use name-brand only (SanDisk). Flash memory is portable and easy to copy but not stable for longer than five years.

Standard Compact Disk (CD). CD media is not stable and can deteriorate after a number of years.

M-DISK (Millennial Disc). We recommend this media for archiving. It is readable on a standard CD player and is stable with a 1,000 year media life.

Resolution

For 35mm film we scan at a minimum of 4,000 dpi (3500 x 5200 pixels). The digital photo can be enlarged up to 18" x 12" at high resolution.

Color Depth

We offer 24 bit "true" color for all JPG formatted files which codes for 16,777,216 color variations.  With TIFF service 48 bit color is available which codes to over 281.5 trillion colors and preserves the ability to correct color professionally.

Uhh? I don't understand.
